· Nightmare House audiobook by Douglas Clegg, narrated by Gary Tiedemann. The first in a terrifying series by a New York Times bestselling author! An ambitious young man gets more than he bargains for when he inherits the infamous Harrow House/5(27). Clegg is a well established horror author who started back in and whose work I have recently discovered. Nightmare House was one of six Clegg novels I have on my shelf waiting to be read. I started with Nightmare House as it is the shorter of his books. It is also the latest novel I have of his, having first been published in /5. Douglas Clegg is a masterful writer in the horror genre. This first book in the Harrow series is trip back to the gothic style, an inherited-house with unexpected inhabitants story with a seriously twisted twist. Harrow was built deliberately and imbued with power. I loved it and have gone on to read all four full-length novels in the series/5().

Author Douglas Clegg has said that Nightmare House is his version of the "quiet ghost story" -- in fact, each Harrow novel reflects a favored literary style of his. Clegg leaps around from first-person to third-person, past to present, with confidence, and he never misses a step. Douglas Clegg is pretty hit or miss for me. I enjoy Nightmare House enough that I’ve read it three times now. And while I don’t remember Mischief very well, I know I enjoyed it. But the later books in the series, as well as Clegg’s other work are too icky for me. That’s just a personal preferce though. Nightmare House though is a lot of fun. Book #1, Nightmare House - set at Harrow in the s, the grandson of its creator has come to claim his deadly inheritance and explore the terrifying mystery within the ancient stones and passages of the house.
