Several accounts of the origin of the name Sauron were suggested in different linguistic manuscripts: deriving from Quenya saura ("foul, evil-smelling, putrid", from the root THUS). deriving from Quenya saura ("foul, vile"; from root SAWA). ‎In the first part of Sauron Defeated, Christopher Tolkien completes his account of the writing of The Lord of the Rings, beginning with Sam's rescue of Frodo from the Tower of Kirith Ungol, and giving a very different account of the Scouring of the Shire.
